Meet the Maker - Ashley Paton - The Glasgow Soap Company

Our November box featured Epsom Salts from Ashley Paton from The Glasgow Soap Company. 

RBC: What inspired you to set up Glasgow Soap Company?

AP: I used to work in a 4 star hotel as a Spa Manager. The daily stress and lack of support caused me to have a breakdown which left me suffering from anxiety and depression - even agoraphobia. I didn't want to be on benefits indefinitely but knew a full time position would be too much so I started my own business. It gave me a sense of purpose and a focus and meant I could work within my means and push myself at my own pace. I never thought I would get to where I am now with a successful, full time business and a better income than I had previously in my high profile position. I am much much happier and healthier and proud of myself and my journey.

RBC: How did you come up with your brand name? 

AP: After various ideas and weeks of brainstorming I came across an article which said the best business names are memorable, easy to spell and state what you do. Glasgow Soap Company it was! 

RBC: Where do you work from?

AP: I still work from home - mine and the boyfriends! Bless him and his patience!

RBC: Where do you find inspiration for your work?

AP: Pinterest! I love pinterest!

RBC: What is your studio playlist?

AP: Oh you've got to have tunes! Always happy tunes, preferably ones I can sing my wee heart out to. The joys of working from home!

RBC: What is your favourite social media platform?

AP: Instagram. I love how visual it is and how wide an audience you can reach.

RBC: What are your plans for the future of your brand?

AP: I plan to streamline my products and refine my processes. I will be looking to employee people very soon so that I can focus on tasks that I feel I don't have enough time to dedicate to at the moment such as product photography.

RBC: And finally can you give us 3 of your essential or favourite items on your desk.

AP: Laptop! I am forever on my laptop. Printer - when it works! And a wee cup of Lapsang Souchong.
